Things Are Looking Good and It’s Time for a Change
Today was the first day of class of my senior year at Texas A&M University. It was a great day! My classes are going to be difficult, but my schedule is very satisfactory (except for lunch, I have to squeeze it in to the time I drive from work to school). I’m taking Nutrition, Post-Civil War U.S. History, Web-Enabled Applications, MIS, and ERP (Enterprise Resouce Planning).
I work for 4 hours in the mornings and have class from 12:45PM to 5:25PM in the evenings on Monday through Thursday. Fridays are my flex-days. I am scheduled to work only the four hours on Fridays as well, but I don’t have any classes on Friday. I can use the afternoons to do homework or projects, or I can just stay at work and get more hours. It is up to me.
After a few chores and homework today, I am going to change my blog’s theme, I have been wanting to for quite a while and now I have a reason. I have a Smugmug account and I can’t add the photos link to my current pages list. So it time for a change. You will soon see.
Don’t be Undeservingly August!
Here’s a quick summary of what is going on: summer school at Blinn is done, grades will be transferred on Thursday the 7th, soon after that I can apply for my Aggie Ring (Whoop!), August 6th-22nd I will be working 8am-5pm, and August 25th the fall semester of my senior year at Texas A&M begins.
I am so glad to be finished with English and speech classes. They were some of the most difficult and challenging courses I’ve taken. Grades should be post by the end of this week.
I can apply for my Aggie Ring as soon as the credits get transferred to Texas A&M. Once ordered, I will receive it in November. I am taking 15 hours this fall, and my parents agreed to purchase a sports pass this year, so I plan on going to as many games as possible.
Today, tropical storm Edouard came though town; I’ve seen more water come out of a sprinkler system. I was very disappointed; I wanted a drenching thunderstorm.
I think I am going to redesign my blog this month, before school starts up. But don’t hold me to it. Trying to do things when working 40 hours per week is not always as easy as it seems. I like when school is in session, because I feel like I get more done.
The Burn
Well, I’m not dead, but I am burnt out. I just have 6 days of class: two speeches, two exams, and two essays left. I just wanted to updated the blog with a new post. I updated to Wordpress 2.6, we’ll see what’s new.
Two by Two should have been One by One
So, this is the second week of English and Speech at Blinn. I only have until August 4th, then the semester is over! These two classes are probably the hardest one’s I’ve ever taken. Not just because they are writing intensive, but also because they are condensed into one month, I am working 20 hours/week, and Blinn has challenging classes to keep their standards up. I have a total of 5 major speeches to give and 4 major essays to write within the month. But along with those assignments I have also had a lot of reading, smaller writing assignments, weekly quizzes in English, and other speaking activities in Speech. Each class has a midterm and a final. I’m not really sure why they are trying to fit every single assignment from the full semesters into the one month summer semesters, but it hasn’t been much fun so far.
Tomorrow, I will present my first major speech. It is about how my jobs have influenced my dream to become big in the corporate world. Working where I have, I now want to own a small company, not work in a large corporation. Well, I had better practice the speech again. Each one has to be 7-10 minutes in length, yikes!
Hopefully, you will hear from me again, if you don’t you know what killed me: summer school at Blinn.
About to Get Busy
On Monday, I will be starting summer school at Blinn. I’m taking English Composition (freshman English that I skipped for 3 years) and Intro to Speech. I will buy the books on Monday after class is over. My first class starts at 9:35 AM and the second class ends at 1:35 PM. I’ll grab lunch then go to work from 3 to 7 PM. I have the feeling that I’m going to be really busy writing papers and speeches; we’ll see.
Tonight, I’m planning to go see Hancock with a friend, but if I don’t get a call soon, I’m going to go see it on my own at 9:45 PM. Lately I’ve been watching a lot of movies, either online, via Netflix, or in the theaters. I’m trying to work my way through a list of movies I’ve wanted to see before school gets started and I don’t have time. (The previous is an example of a poorly structured, mostly likely, run-on sentence.)
Vacation Photos
I’ve posted my Washington vacation photos in the Photos section of the blog. If you take a look, I hope you enjoy and will post comments.
Success in Life
“Success will come with patience.” That was the last advice I got in a fortune cookie at T. Jin’s. So far, I have lived by that motto. I work hard everyday, at work, school, or play. Always giving my best effort, I usually succeed, but when I don’t, I just keep going. You can look at the token in that light, or you can look at it in a different light.
“Success will come with patience.” You have to wait for success to come. You’re unsuccessful now, but maybe in the future, if you wait patiently, success will come. Obviously, I try to look at it in the first more optimistic frame.
What is success? Is it becoming the CEO of a Fortune 100 company, making millions of dollars, and marrying the perfect trophy wife? I don’t think so. I think of success as doing my best everyday, enjoying my work, and leading a life in service to God.
