Supply & Demand on the Price of Gas

Everybody is talking about the price of gas right now. It’s the hot button issue, so I’m going to weigh in. Supply and demand affect the price of gas and not price gouging or any other radical idea. The only way the price will lower is if there is more supply or less demand, and I don’t see demand dropping much. So the only thing our government could do to help the situation is to reduce the regulations on drilling.

Everyone talks about becoming energy independent. Well, it’s not going to happen if oil companies aren’t allowed to drill off the East, West, and Gulf Coasts and/or Alaska. We also need more refineries.

Taking more taxes from the oil companies recent profits is not going to help the situation nor would it be good precedent in our country. Private business is a cornerstone in functioning society. If gas becomes socialized bad things will happen. Most socialized programs fail miserably.

U.S. Congress, do not even consider taxing the oil companies to get their profits or even think about socializing gas!

One fun, radical idea to fix our oil problem is to invade Canada! We’d get more cold weather croplands, more timber, more oil & natural gas, and only a little more than 30 million people. California has about 36 million. The U.S. would double in physical size. Canada has lots of fossil fuel opportunities. It would be a great economic boost. They don’t have much of a military. They can still have their provinces, but will now become states.

A less radical plan would be to slowly start buy their land right out from under them. Then, the landowners would be American and they could force the parliaments to join the Union.

All we have to do next is move south. Western Hemisphere domination!

Spring Semester

Well, there are only 6 more days of school. I have three finals: physics, political science, and calculus. I’m not worried about physics or political science. Calculus is going to be rough. We had our third exam last night. I feel alright about it, but not great. Everything has been going 90-to-nothin’ for the past two weeks. I can finally slow down now. I turned 19 on the 22nd. I don’t feel different or special. Oh well, I just a year older. Maybe I’m a little smarter too.

Update: I made an 88 on my calculus exam. I am so glad.

Spring

Spring is such a busy time of year! Taxes, marriages, the end of the school year, lots of birthdays, broken down cars, exams, movies, work, etc… I am stressing out. There is a lot on my plate right now. I don’t have time for a whole lot more. I’m stressing about my physics exam tomorrow that should be pretty easy, so I don’t know why I’m worried. I hope everyone has a less busy spring than I do.

Update on Registration

I have now changed majors to General Studies. It took about 15 minutes to go to the General Studies building and change my major. They were much nicer and more helpful at the there than at the Business School. I can now register for “business” classes because I’m a GEST major. I will register at 5:00 am on April 20th. I haven’t spent the time to pick out specific classes yet, but I will soon.

Registration

Texas A&M is pissing me off.

First, we have registrations coming up. I got an email saying that my registration date was April 20th and I’d have to take honors courses when I signed up on that date. Normally, they will give you an honors registration date and a date to register if you don’t want any honors courses. Well, I didn’t get a “normal” registration date, only the honors date. I’m not taking honors courses at the moment and I don’t know if I will in the fall. I didn’t know what to do; there was no date for me to register without honors. So I called and email the Office of the Registrar and they straightened everything out. I will register for regular classes on the 20th.

Second, I’m trying to change majors to Information and Operations Management in the business school. So, this morning I rode my bike over to the Wehner building on West Campus to go talk to an academic adviser. I arrive and no one is there, so I go back over to main campus. This afternoon I called to set up an appointment so I could actually talk to someone. The lady I spoke to said that because I was not majored in the Mays Business School I could not make an appointment, I would have to walk in next week!!! Argh! They make changing majors so difficult here.
